Manuscript Submissions

All manuscripts must be typed and double spaced.

To submit a picture book: Please send the entire manuscript (but no more than 15 pages), a cover letter and a self-addressed stamped envelope (SASE) to BookStop Literary Agency at the address on the left. In your cover letter, include your phone number, e-mail address, a short paragraph about your background, and a brief synopsis of your manuscript. Please DO NOT send art, dummies, or mock-ups unless you are an illustrator.

To submit a novel: Please send the first 30 pages of the manuscript, a cover letter and a self-addressed stamped envelope (SASE) to BookStop Literary Agency at the address on the left. In your cover letter, include your phone number, e-mail address, a short paragraph about your background, and a brief synopsis of your manuscript.

If you would like your manuscript returned to you, make sure the SASE is large enough to accommodate it. (Caution: Your mailer needs stamps since the post office will NOT accept metered mail sent from a place other than where it has been metered.) If you live outside the US, please submit via e-mail. We do NOT accept international postage coupons. BookStop cannot be responsible for saving, storing, or returning any materials not accompanied by a SASE.

If you have a non-fiction proposal, please send a complete outline with two sample chapters.

To submit via e-mail: E-mail submissions should be sent to info@bookstopliterary.com and should include the word "submission" in the subject line followed by your last name and the title of your manuscript. Please paste a brief cover letter and the first 10 pages of your manuscript into the body of your email. We will NOT accept or respond to e-mails with attachments.

Illustrator Submissions

If you are an illustrator, send color and black and white samples of your work. Please do not send originals. (If you are not an illustrator, just send your manuscript. Publishers like to make their own choices regarding the most appropriate illustrator for your work.)

Unfortunately we cannot respond personally to every submission, but we assure you that we will carefully consider your manuscript and notify you of our decision as promptly as possible. If we do accept your work for representation, we will contact you to discuss the terms of our representation. (We have an enormous amount of manuscripts to read so please allow us at least four to six weeks for a response.)
